CHSAA Update and more coaching resources

April 3, 2020

Good Morning Coaches,
I know most of you have already heard the unfortunate news about CHSAA extending the suspension period to April 30th. Like I have mentioned in previous emails, I refuse to throw in the towel on the season until we are told it is officially cancelled. Speaking with my AD, it seems CHSAA still wants to have some sort of spring season if schools are allowed to return this school year. Maybe if we all remain as hopeful as we can, good things will happen! Please let me know if you have any questions about the extended deadline.

Soccer Documentary:Rob Bohlman from Steamboat Springs HS sent me a YouTube link yesterday that I thought some of you might enjoy as well. It is called “Soccertown USA- An American Soccer Documentary”. Maybe you have seen it before; but it carries a great message for us as coaches and for our players. You can check it out at the link below:

United Soccer Coaches Letter:The folks at United Soccer Coaches released this letter to the high school coaching community. We are all feeling the absence of coaching our teams and also missing the game in general. The letter is a short and worthwhile read for our community.

Essential Shows to Watch:
ESPN put together a list of what they feel are essential things to watch for soccer fans. There are also some great shows on Amazon if you have a “Prime” membership. I recently finished a show called “The Test” on Amazon about the Australian Cricket Team and I found it fascinating and impactful from a coaching point of view. Amazon also recently released “All or Nothing- Brazil National Team”. Similar to the Man City episodes, they followed the Brazilian men’s team during the summer. You will need to turn on subtitles unless you understand Portugease 🙂

End of Season Planning:We also need to start thinking about how we want to recognize our players and coaches at the end of the season. I feel it is appropriate for us to recognize athletes and coaches despite the season being suspended and potentially cancelled. United Soccer Coaches and CHSCA remain committed to helping however they can. I am open to suggestions, ideas and feedback in regards to how we want to handle All League, All State and All Region awards. All League representation might be up to each individual league but I think we can collectively come up with a fair and accurate process for All-State and All Region/American. Please let me know your thoughts, your feedback and opinion is greatly appreciated.
I also want to take a minute and recognize Craig Decker from Doherty HS who has been posting all of these emails and resources on the CHSCA website. You can find the link here: http://www.chssca.org
Thank you, have a great weekend!
