Good Afternoon Coaches,
All State RecognitionWe decided as a coaching association last Thursday, we would not be recognizing players or coaches this spring due to the COVID pandemic. The majority of coaches all felt it was the right thing to do given most leagues were not honoring players and the season was cancelled. We could not base voting and nominations on “Could’ve and Would’ve” scenarios.
United Soccer Coaches AwardsWe also decided we would not be recognizing any players or coaches for the United Soccer Coaches awards for the same reasons as above. If you are a member, you can still nominate players for the USC All Scholar All American awards based on their junior year soccer accomplishments and cumulative GPA over 4 years. Nominations are due July 1st. Nomination process and information can be found here: USC All Scholar All America They are also accepting up to 3 players per team for the Senior Excellence Award
CHSSCA All State Soccer GamesAs of right now, we have cancelled the girls All State game and we will wait a few more weeks before deciding the fate of the boys game but it looks highly unlikely it will happen. Most school districts have announced their facilities will remain closed for the summer. Many coaches also feel it would be unsafe to organize the event given current state and national health protocols. We will monitor the situation and work closely with CHSCA in determining if it will be safe to host a game but as mentioned above, it looks highly unlikely.
CHSCA Multi-Sport Clinic July 24, 25, 26 Lakewood High SchoolAs of right now, this event is scheduled to take place but again it all depends what state and national governments deem it appropriate come July. We were planning on offering the United Soccer Coaches Special Topics Diploma course but may switch gears depending on what is announced and save the course for next summer.
Vacant Secretary positionKrista from Kent Denver is leaving at the end of the school year and we are looking for someone to take over the secretary role of the association. There have been a few people interested but I want to make sure we open it up to everyone. The role is fairly minor with the exception of attending the fall and spring meetings and helping the President Elect and President organize events. Please let me know if you are interested.
